SRJC Student Health Peers |
The PEERS Coalition is a program within Student Health Services that utilizes the authentic and creative voices of students to increase the conversation about mental health at SRJC.
By raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental health, we foster an accepting environment that promotes student wellness and success. The PEERS team is working on ways to promote mental health and connection in a hybrid format online and in person. |
Community and Cultural Restoration
In the Community and Cultural Restoration class (CCR), students are trained to lead circles in classes around campus to lead by a student leader perspective. A circle is a new way to provide students the opportunity to get out of the classroom environment and communicate to their peers and teachers. I have been a student circle keeper for my school community for 2 school years and have lead circles with themes such as: communication, compassion, positivity, and genocide.
Before this class, I had never experience leading a group of my peers but now I am able to lead a group of students to communicate with each other authentically, creating deeper relationships I have had the opportunity to lead circles in multiple classrooms, and even if they are seen as unsuccessful in my own eyes, everyone in the class is able to connect to each other on a deeper level than before. Everyone in the Windsor District Community should have an opportunity to feel valued and I highly recommend the Community Cultural Restoration class to anyone. |
January Circle EventOn January 25th 2019 students of the Community and Cultural Restoration Class, members of the Windsor community, and I participated in the first Community In Circle Event ever. During the night, students explained the meaning of circles and the affect restorative practice has on the community, experienced a film about circles, participated in student lead circles, and asked questions to a panel of individuals who are affected by circles in some capacity. Some were stuff members, students, parents, and members of the Windsor community. The whole planning and lead of the event was crafted by the students, by the official poster design, to the marketing, circle plan, outline for the event, lead the circles, and presented most of the night.
