The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
As the stage manager, it was my job to oversee the whole production process within the entire core, and in the end as a leader I had to cover all jobs that were not being completed.
My past experience of stage managing prepared me fairly well for the beast of this show. I knew how to send the emails, original props and costume list, and how to deal with the pressure and stress of a show. I was able to see the process of an organized director. Her constant organization and honesty to pod leaders throughout the entire process was inspiring, from the first production meeting to the last she knew exactly what she wanted and how to make it happen. |
Asunder
For Nueva’s 2018 fall production I worked as a performer (actor and dancer), writer, and pod leader for Asunder, an original production showcasing student generated music, dance, and spoken word, directed by Windsor High School’s theater teacher Brian Bryson and managed by Allison Frenzel. At the beginning of the production process, I was apart of the creative team who wrote the play and wrote my own generated spoken word by researching about refugees in my history class, as well as personally with the director. All the dancers, musicians, and actors collaborated to write the structure of the play, so everyone could understand the tone for the scenes. As a performer I was required to memorize dances, songs, and monologues, as well as bring the emotional value of the character’s written to life onstage. When I was incharge of the acting pod while the stage managers were collaborating with other pods, I had the responsibility of making sure the cast was on task, help individuals memorize monologues and understand their characters, and then communicate to the stage managers of our progress made everyday.

Romeo and Juliet
My role in the Nueva production of Romeo and Juliet was Assistant Stage Manager and actor. At the beginning of the production, I was not informed about my responsibilities, however, over the course of the production I took over a multitude of jobs. Some of my responsibilities were overseeing backstage during shows, fight call, taking over for the stage manager if she was not present, and manage the props and costumes needed for the production. On top of overseeing the cast, I was also in the show and acted in a number of scenes, as well as supporting my fellow actors. Romeo and Juliet is the second show of the year, so I knew beforehand how to manage my time. Using class time and weekends, I was able to complete all homework.
I learned from this production that I enjoy stage managing and would love to do it again. I have discovered from this production that I am good at leading a group of people and making quick choices. I have also learned how to understand people’s perspective and help others communicate.. In the future, I plan to stage manage more Nueva productions and possibly continue in college. |
Peter and The Star Catcher
In the show Peter and The Starcatcher, I was the supporting character named Prentiss. Throughout the creation of the show, my confidence as both an actor and a person grew. A couple days before the cast list came out, I was afraid that I would not receive a role in the production. Now I know my worth and I can have a major role in a show. As well, my gain of confidence will help me communicate with others with any job I may obtain. The people around me were easy to communicate, so we were always on the same page.
This production has shown me a peek at what Nueva has to offer, making me excited to see what is to come and to continue to act in the spring show. From the relationship I have created with Maddie when acting as Ted and Prentiss, I discovered I am good at working with other actors as both a group and a duo. Before this show I have never had a main role in a production, so the show has helped me gain confidence on stage as an actor. This show was an amazing experience, giving me the opportunity to work with a positive and supportive group of students and a professional director. |
